Japan May 2023 ā€“ Tokyo days 2 and 3

After lunch in Tsukiji we went for a walk to teamLabs Planets but it was completely sold out for the day. I ended up ordering tickets a week out, so fair warning just book ahead of time. The area around teamLabs is fairly uninviting, a lot of modern buildings, roads and bridges. The Gas Science Museum is right down the road from teamLabs which seemed to be the one other attraction in the area.

Our second full day was bucket list item “fluffy pancakes” which put us in the Shibuya area. We went to ‘A Happy Pancake’ in Shibuya and got there just in time as a big line formed while we waited. The wait and the meal took a good two hours as the pancakes take a good 30 minutes to make. The crowd was largely tourists but the pancakes were definitely worth the wait. We tried to return to one of these in Ginza later in the trip and the wait was four hours (!) so plan accordingly, get there before opening.

We walked up to Shinjuku after breakfast. Rain made the day more problematic, we found refuge in the greenhouse at the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden during a downpour and returned to Shinjuku for dinner when the rain lightened up. At this point we also got setup with the prepaid Suica cards so we could use the subway easily.
