We spent a day in Yokohama which turned out to be a lot more eventful than expected. We took an express train to Yokohama station and would return on the Shinkansen from Shin-Yokohama station. We explored the market in the station while trying to find our way out, happened upon Nissan headquarters, explored Chinatown, got caught up in a couple large festivals along the waterfront and went shopping at the Red Brick Warehouse. Yokohama was a lot more fun than I expected with the addition of some festivals going on the day we went.
Our first goal was Chinatown, we walked from the station which was fairly uneventful, it was very busy and fairly modern cityscape. We passed through Nissan headquarters which was fun, seeing the showroom. I saw a couple GTRs, old and new, on the street. We wandered down to Chinatown which was an explosion of people! We entered from a side street and the Main Street was mobbed. We had fun walking around a little before our lunch reservation. After lunch we explored a little more of Chinatown and then headed to the waterfront.
Upon arriving at the waterfront we discovered there was a Dragon Boat Race going on which was fun to watch, heading to the Red Brick Warehouse there were a lot of people and food vendors which revealed that there was a music festival going on right outside the warehouse. The whole area was super busy but it was very nice. The warehouse was probably unusually packed with overflow from the concert area but we managed to find some good souvenirs. When we looked up the festival it was a lot of western artists my kids knew, they were wishing we had figured that out ahead of time so we could go.
