Italy April 2024, Milan

We had about 10 days in April we could use for a vacation and JFK airport in NYC has direct flights to Milan for reasonable prices. We planned our first trip to Italy around spending a few days in Milan and doing a high speed train loop around northern Italy. We stopped in Florence, Bologna and Venice, then back to Milan for our return flight.

Unknown to us beforehand Design Week in Milan was going on while we were there, this was fun and added another element to the crowds but was only really apparent when we visited the Brera area.

There were a few things that struck me about Milan. The cathedral rooftop was really fun, a lot of people were up there and it’s big and accommodating to see the city from up high. The street cars were quite fun, there are a lot of them and they’re old but in great shape and getting around with them is an experience. Our host recommended Capuano’s pizzeria, and, well, we went back or return night in Milan! This place was delicious. La Scala was interesting and the endless shopping was fun to take in. Navigli is pretty bar heavy and kind of dirty, we went through but didn’t want to stay for food.
